Birmingham Editors Win Regional Emmy Awards.
June 23, 2008
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Editors Chris Tomberlin and Jared Shull of Outpost Pictures have won two regional Emmy® Awards for the film “Mr. Dial Has Something to Say,” which premiered on Alabama Public Television (APT) last fall. They won Emmys in the editing and outstanding documentary competitions. The film also garnered Emmys for cinematography and post-production direction.
“Mr. Dial Has Something to Say,” directed by Celia Carey, explores the topic of racism and elitism in the visual arts world through the eyes of Bessemer artist Thornton Dial. “This film was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for an editor,” said Shull. “Sometimes a gripping story comes together with beautiful footage and an extraordinary soundtrack. Then your job as an editor is just to get out of the way and let the story tell itself.”
Chris Tomberlin founded Outpost Pictures in 2000. The post-production company specializes in creative visual storytelling and has won a variety of television honors including Telly Awards, Addy Awards, and Cine Awards. These are the first Emmy Awards® for the company. For more information about Outpost Pictures, or to view a trailer for “Mr. Dial Has Something to Say,” visit www.outpostpictures.tv.
